Dear Robin, we wished we've had more time to develop ours posts but we're more of a music agency than a webzine, and our first goal is first to have all these beautiful people to play some shows. And the Young Marble Giants and Raincoats ones at ATP were just magic ! That's why we captured an instant. Hopefully they will meet again in a near future and a journalist will take the opportunity for doing a proper article or interview. Best !

In the misty rain of a Friday evening in Liverpool at somewhere around half nine on the steps of the Liverpool Contemporary Urban Centre clustered a number of musicians catching a moment of quiet after their performances. For those that anguish over the future of British music both the Dustin Wong “Infinite Love” Orchestra and Let’s Buy Happiness standing together at that moment after their performances would surely have reassured them.
In a world cluttered with unearned superlatives and the excess of ego that too frequently accompanies music scene in Britain today, the performance of Dustin Wong’s Infinite Love at the Liverpool Music Week Final Party at the Liverpool CUC was a beautiful example of self-effacing musicianship and collaboration at its best. Culminating in an astounding standing ovation in the CUC Cinema venue, the three quarters of an hour performance with barely a pause and a complete absence of excess, that held the audience’s stilled attention throughout, was a tour de force.
At eight o’clock on Friday evening you made your choice between the equally charming “Let’s But Happiness”, in from Newcastle upon Tyne, or the Dustin Wong’s Infinite Love Orchestra, a collaboration that bridged the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Liverpool. If you’d followed the knowing words from the queue earlier in the evening, then your money was on Dustin Wong.
Behind this performance stand two astonishingly modest individuals, Dustin Wong the New York-based creator of the Infinite Love album, and Jon Davies, the Liverpool-based musician who had the vision to turn Infinitive Love into an orchestral piece for eight guitars and a percussionist. Other than Davies and Wong, the musicians were drawn from a variety of Liverpool groups. But this was not simply an exceptional performance by nine musicians, it was a showcase for the sheer professionalism present in the Liverpool music scene. Above all due to the compactness of the venue Jon Davies’ quiet leadership was for all to see and the promise of things to come.
Here too was the meeting not only of minds but also possibly cultures. Wong’s cosy brown cardigan reflected grungier roots and possibly a hint of academia. This contrasted with the crisper, clean cut appearance of the Liverpool musicians, with perhaps more than a touch of Scouse brashness. But it was also a scene of profound mutual respect between Wong, his back to the audience, and the eight musicians arrayed before him in the limelight. The dialogue between Wong and Davies, and Davies and the orchestra was telling. If Wong was the master artist and inspiration here, Davies was the quiet taskmaster and conductor delivering a performance able to be repeated in any forum.
And when the standing ovation had subsided and the orchestra had hugged one another with equal measures of joy and relief, it was time for a quiet reflection upon a “Job Exceptionally Well Done”.
