The duo has been busy lately, since they have been in Argentina for a few days. After their show at Pictoplasma and BTN in Argentina back in 2008, Gangpol & Mit have been part of the workshop, conferences and show program PRETMDG in Buenos Aires,where they have shared with a large audience their latest actions and the development of its most ambitious audiovisual project: the band 1000 people. We are very sad and sorry to announce that Civil Civic European tour (planned for may and june) is cancelled due to VISA complications. We are working on postponing the tour later this year, more news soon.

“Throughout the modern age, the ins and outs of international immigration law have sucked many good and righteous people into a dark, freezing limbo and forced them to grovel like maggots before the granite altars of bureaucracy.

This is the terrible doom that has landed on the head of our own dear Aaron C. , guitar wrangler for Civil Civic.

He has quite suddenly and through no fault of his own been stripped of his Uk visa and his passport is now being held by the bloodless worms that staff the British Home Office. He’s just not going anywhere.

The Civil Civic spring tour is officially cancelled. This affects many people in many ways, and we could not be sorrier. We will do our hell-fuck damnedest to make it up to all of you.

On one hand, Cosmic Neman - Zombie Zombie and Herman Dune‘s rhythm section – picked up a special selection of records from the different sides of his music culture to make this original mix for the new Versatile podcast. An eclectic music vision that goes well with Versatile records’ open minded music policy. Cosmic’s mix goes from minimal wave to stoner rock, from Manchester’s Factory electronic golden age to space rock, with a touch of recent electronic hits and remixes, rock classics and rarities, where Guy Debord makes a few situationnists interventions. To celebrate the “Rough Trade Shops On Tour” and also the Record Store Day in Paris, Etienne has put together a selection ranging from Krautrock, film soundtracks and 70′s tracks, in memory of the late French musician, Cyril Lefevre.

HAIGHT ASHBURY announces a 20-show France and Germany Tour in May and June, promoting their new album “Haight-Ashbury 2:The Ashburys”

Haight-Ashbury return with their numerically titled album Haight-Ashbury 2:The Ashburys released on the 27th February, from it comes the new single Sophomore.
The band described as the “new Psychedelic ABBA”, with tracks from their first album Here In The Golden Rays – from which Freeman Town and Favourite Song became radio hits across Europe, ending the year with a sell-out show at world famous Les Transmusicales Fesival in Rennes. The band will be taking to the road with a headline tour in support of the album.

The new album sees the band starting with on the dark sitar frenzy of Maasricht (a treaty) and ending with Scott on piano for Love, Haight & Ashbury, a song the Carpenters would have been proud of. The girls angelic choral/folk vocals set against their often dark music. One French journalist has already described it as the “shoegaze Rumours” as there are so many great songs.

Though they have many famous fans, the band were surprised when Scarlett Johansson turned up at one of their gigs, with Scott, ever the gentleman, greeting her with the traditional Glaswegian welcome of offering to buy her a shot!

Jad Fair and Gilles-Vincent Rieder, are respectively the singer-guitarist and the drummer of the Half Japanese, one of the prominent underground american band, active since 1974. Fair, with both Half Japanese and his solo carreer, has always been distinguished for his stylistic versatility and productive prolificity. From lo-fi primitivism to melodic songwriting, from naif avantgarde to the most crooked pop.

From the end of the 80′s Jad dives into many collaborations with various indie-rock artists like Teenage Fanclub, Yo La Tengo, The Pastels, Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and first of all Daniel Johnston, an artist very close to Jad for attitude and artistic spirit.

Interbang Records is releasing a lost album, selecting the most interesting tracks and offering, in this way, the chance for the Jad Fair fans to own and listen to one of his most successfull and seductive works.

The album ranges over noise oriented hits as Go Go Go and I’m Your Machine and  dreamy ballads as The World Is Right and The Mothership, the claustrophobic atmospheres of He’s Got Nothing and Just A Monkey (just like Wall Of Voodoo on amphetamine), unusual funk bombs as Peppermint Bubblegum and voodoo-soul as The Vampires Are Here, the desert rock of We’ve Got It Made and the rock steady of Sunshine and The Phantom, the lovely litany Evil Hands, and a sort of bolero, The Storm, that Ravel would have appreciated, lisergic trips like The Wild Group and Demon Seed (similar to the best moments of Death In Vegas) and the alcoholic etno-music of Number One Pest and Only Then, up to the catharsis of Goat Creatures.

As usual, the album artwork is made by Jad Fair himself, that in the past years has carried on, with passion, a collateral carreer as graphic artist, as the numerous exhibitions in Europe  and U.S.A. and in numerous artwork published demonstrate.
