REISSUE OF PALAIS SCHAUMBURG’S FIRST ALBUM
The influential German band Palais Schaumburg has reunited in the classic lineup, and is due to perform live, after the reissue of their first album, set for October 12. Since its release in 1981, their self-titled debut album, produced by musician and producer David Cunningham, became one of the best examples of the so-called Neue Deutsche Welle, with a perfect combination of unusual minimalist electronic sounds with texts touched by Dadaism, and has been an inspirational magnet to countless young bands.
Palais Schaumburg were formed in 1980 in Hamburg by Holger Hiller (who had already published a solo single and EP) and Swiss keyboardist Thomas Fehlmann. The band debuted with the singles Macht Mich Glucklich Wie Nie, Telephon, Rote Lichter and Wir Bauen Eine Neue Stadt (video below), mostly compiled on Das Single Kabinet. Hiller left after their debut album, and was replaced by Moritz von Oswald and vocalist Walther Thielsch. Fehlmann led the band through two more albums, Lupa (1982) and Parlez Von Schaumburg (1984).
In addition to the actual album, the reissue includes a second CD/LP containing all the pieces that the band recorded prior to their debut album, plus a previously unreleased recording of a concert in Holland. The limited edition 180 gram vinyl double LP additionally contains a single with four tracks from a concert in Hamburg where people from the audience perform their own versions accompanied by the band. A lavish booklet includes rare photographs and liner notes by Chris Bohn, editor of the British music magazine “The Wire”.
Stayed tuned for their upcoming shows!
