NATHAN SALSBURG NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY
We are happy to announce that our very own Nathan Salsburg, who will be touring the UK in April 2014, has been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Liner Notes category for his writing in Work Hard, Play Hard, Pray Hard: Hard Time, Good Time, and End Time Music, 1923–1936. This diverse compilation of early country music recordings was produced, compiled, and annotated by Salsburg, and drawn largely from the collection of Don Wahle, late of Nathan’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. A collector of hillbilly 78-rpm records for many years, Wahle had recently passed and his collection was bound for the dump when Salsburg recovered it. Nathan wrote the introduction and track notes to the three-volume set which also featured essays from Sarah Bryan (editor of the Old Time Herald), Amanda Petrusich (New York Times, author of It Still Moves), and John Jeremiah Sullivan (Southern editor of the Paris Review, author of Blood Horses and the essay collection Pulphead).
