Born into a musical family, Tashi Dorji grew up in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, where he taught himself to play the guitar, soaking up classic rock and heavy metal via shortwave radio and bootleg tapes from India. When in 2000 he moved to Asheville (NC) to begin college, he discovered hardcore punk and free improvisation. Along the way, Dorji developed a playing style unbound by tradition. All references break loose during a composition as Dorji keys into his own inner world. He has released music both as a soloist and as a collaborator, notably with Mette Rasmussen, Aaron Turner, Tyler Damon, Dave Rempis a.o., his latest record STATELESS came out on Drag City in September 2020 //
